My ds has gdd and cat walk yet , he is getting too big for his petite star zia so I was looking at a new buggy. I want a three wheeler , lightweight ish and small when folded... Obviously within reason. I have a mothercare my 3 also but it's big and heavy to get in and out of the car . ( it's two parts) ... Anyways I was looking at the mountain buggys .. There is one that is lightweight and takes up to a 5 year old which sounds good as I don't want a special needs buggy yet and if he can't walk by 5 then I guess we will get a wheelchair .. Any ideas anyone ? Tia

I've got a jane pro slalom from eBay which was recommended on here .we also have a cheap mothercare one .dd2 can walk but has autism so can have unpredictable behaviour

Thanks . Is it big and heavy?

It is quite big unfortunately should have said dd2 is 4.3 and fairly tall it does however fold in one piece

Ds has a sn buggy, he is 3.6.

Previous to this we used a Baby Jogger Elite and a Mountain buggy - both would fit up to 5. The MB is quite big and heavy folded. The Baby Jogger folds in half and is a very easy one hand fold. They are both pretty sturdy and 3 wheelers.

The problem we had with them was that they provide no support, ds can walk, but has low tone, and so tends to slump to one side, when he was assessed by wheelchair services they were concerned about the sideways slump causing a scoliosis like curve.

The buggy he has now is a Tom Cross Stroller, most people don't realise it is a sn buggy, it is very comfortable for ds, and is easy to push.

The mini city baby jogger is about the best for size and weight. Just a normal buggy so no significant supports though. We sometimes stick DGS (5) in it for quick in and out of the car appointments but use it now mostly for DGS 2 who is 9 mo. I think the phil and teds sports is also a really good size, probably heavier though.

Our SN buggy now is the special tomato jogger. Brilliant size wise and for pushing but heavy and bulky but it goes up to about age 8-10. We had a swifty supplied by wheelchair services. Good for posture but heavy and not a good off roader.

This is the one I was looking at , it's lighter than the previous ones and folds quite flat .. My ds can walk with a Kaye walker but I don't think he needs specific support . I will need to look at him in the buggy to see if he is flumping .. I think he sits in it ok ..

There is a picture of ds in his sn buggy on my profile.

The Mountain Buggy looks great.

Thanks hazey .. I think our ds are similar .. I'll look at yours .. Would you buy the mountain buggy if you didn't have the one you have ?

Which one is that hazey?

The buggy on profile is the Tom Cross Stroller - it is 4 wheel, but we do a lot of walking in it.

I can't remember how old your ds is, or whether he has low tone? But I remember that they are similar (we had a bed conversation once-did you sort something?!) how is he getting on with his Kaye Walker?

We actually have a knackered old MB in the shed, which I have kept hold of, we took it camping with us in the Summer, because we worried about the sn buggy on the rough ground. We used it mainly for getting ds to sleep.

Here they only assess for sn buggies/wheelchairs after 3 - unless there are obvious needs for postural support, medical equipment. My friend recently had her ds assessed, and she found it useful, because they said they didn't think he needed a sn buggy, and recommended the type of standard buggy that would be best. They also said they would re assess him at 5 to see whether he would need something like a Mac Major (he can walk, but is very erratic!)

If we didn't have the Tom Cross, we would definitely use the MB.

My 2 1/2 year old is in a Mountain Buggy (& SN buggy). It is fab, but I can see his feet getting closer & closer to footplate - I reckon it will go to 4 ish. We are hoping to get a Special Tomato Jogger - they sometimes come up second hand & go to about age 8.

He is 2 and a half .. He walks really really well with his Kaye walker and can stand independently , just won't take that step yet .. He has a weak core but otherwise is very strong and walks with a normal gait . I don't think he needs any support in the buggy and he isn't talk just heavy and quite chunky .. I just thought if look for one now , I have been saving as I really don't want a mac major ( my issue ) .. I have been referred to ot but haven't seen them yet... Ref the bed , my husband made a new bed out of the cot bed . He took it apart and made rails to keep him in and it works brilliantly . He loves it and although he could get out he doesn't :-)
