Hi

My daughter goes to a rubbish day care with 1-1 vb/ABA support.

The tutor is working on turn taking and working in groups of 3 and 4. We need to find ways of letting my daughter 'Mand' from her peers, wait for her turn, follow instructions in a group etc.

I need some games ideas - something simple that she can do yet something that can be a bit complex for her peers to find interesting enough.

I am thinking connect 4 as one of them. She can wait for her turn while her peers can work on make links of 4 at the same time. Any other ideas? We have already done the fishing game, ten pin bowling, puzzles. At the moment she is into matching etc but those are too easy for her peers to be interested in.

She doesn't have imaginary play yet.

The nursery have no resources.

Pairs or snap? Or too easy? Dominoes?

Hi I on school run at the minute but I could look to see what activities have been donewithdd2 as I know her turn taking has been worked on

How about board games? You can get quite simple ones for young children such as lotto or dominoes. Orchard toys or DK games make some good ones.
Or building towers out of blocks/Lego? If this is too easy then how about taking pictures of simple structures and then the kids have to use the picture to make the design? This will also be good for your daughter's matching skills.

We are doing something similar at nursery with DS and we find that although the activity may be quite boring for the other children just working with the tutors is reinforcing for them!

We use Pop up Pirate with dd. Her salt used it to work on turn taking and this Christmas we bought one to use at home.
It helps dd with staying focused as well which is another of her targets.
She needs help to put the swords in all the way but we make a game of that part too and make a big deal of saying "click!!"
It might be good for the older children too as there is always the anticipation of the pirate flying up!

Dd2 s nursery used picture matching with her

hazeyjane · 10/01/2014 10:56

Ds's 1-1 is doing picture matching (with match the picture to the object - usually vehicles and animals) with ds and one other child.

And Pop Up Pirate too very popular - we do it with dds6 and 7 at home and every one loves it.

We also do a game wher we each have a car or wind up toy and have to take it in turns to set them off, then see how far they go. We have to do a lot of 'DS, Wait, Wait...1, 2, 3.... Go' because he always wants to set his off at the same time!

Clic clac track from elc each child taking a turn to send a car down the track .at dd2 school I think they take turns blowing up balloons

Thanks all

pop up pirate was one of the first ones we did there. Seems like they are all bored now!

picture matching is a good one. She has only just started 2d-2d matching. So I am now thinking of getting those Lotto games from 2 years ago out.

Pandabo seems interesting. I will run this past my team. Thanks Polter!

lego - yes they have those in the nursery. She still isnt at a stage where she can copy a picture on a block. However, its a good point.. the other children can copy and find it engaging while she gets peer interaction out of it.

Very useful - thanks!
