SN children

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Very annoyed because the LA say a toilet chair is not 'educationally necessary' for a child with CP in MS school setting!

Poor little DGS is desperately signing for a poo to his poor TA and looking very distressed because its impossible to do his poos in a nappy.

Also signing for a wee and she can do nothing Sad

OT have had the request returned refused so has resubmitted it and meanwhile the poor little boy is using the toilet at home but not at school.

He has a hoist. Educational???

Where do we kick off to?

Well the next person has a name right?

A name and a job title and an address, and so does their boss. Write to the first, copy in the second and the Educational Welfare Officer.

If you feel able to, you are within your rights to withdraw the child from school until this matter is resolved on the basis that until the chair is supplied he cannot access his learning environment.

(I know the professionals are nice, but even nice professionals have more resources than they often let on. Why aren't they chasing this for you? Why aren't they buying a chair and invoicing the LA? Why aren't they simply buying the chair out of their end of year school assembly costume budget in the name of the Equality Act?)

Oh and after the small person has been out of school for 2 weeks he will be entitled to home tuition, which will add up to the cost of a chair pretty quickly.

We can't take DGS out of school her prefers there to home Grin

I've been wading my way through the councils sen policy and come across parent partnership.

Providing DD is happy with it I will contact them next week. It seems like a good idea and not too much aggro involved. Smile

The Rabbit has wheelchair wheels so should be treated as a wheelchair I would say. You can get wheelchairs set up for hemis so maybe worth speaking to the rep about that too.

School may be preferred but unless this is sorted that will change.

Good luck. I'm so sorry your little mite is being so badly let down. I hope things resolve soon.

Sneezecakesmum · 12/01/2014 19:20

Many thanks. We will get it resolved soon or else!

I would love for DGS to have a one side wheelchair, at the moment he is looking at a power chair.

Excellent news!

tell me you didn't threaten to leave portable paper pulp bedpans on their desks

For anyone else looking for a stander, this is new. It converts from sitting to standing with no transfers.

Not cheap though.

Sneezecakesmum · 15/01/2014 20:35

Not cheap Shock I think we'd have to sell our house! Looks fab though and moves around like one of those segway things!

No we didnt have to do any dirty protest to get the toilet chair Grin

I know one LA funded it for a child in school, don't know how long it took though.
