Carers allowance

I get carers allowance for dd, have just called the tax credit people to do my renewal and they told me i should have had a p60 from the carers allowance dept and they need the figure from it to do my renewal?
I've been getting carers for three years now and never had a p60 and tax credits have never asked me for it before.
I'm a bit worried that it means I'll lose money, especially if it's something they should have had all along, have I been overpayed by them? and does everyone get these p60's because I'm positive I've never had one.
Am very very confused atm and very worried

I've never had a P60, and have been getting carer's allowance for 4.5 years. Sounds like shite!

Thanks geekgrrl! Such a relief to hear it's not just me
I think I'm going to call them back and query it, but the man I spoke to was adamant it was a 'taxable benefit' or some such thing and I absolutely can't do my renewal without this figure from them.
I always renew over the phone and have never had this problem before!

when we did our tax thingies!! (can tell I didnt do them!)

we had to put down that I got carers allowance and this was taken into account when they worked out how much we were to get

I thought it was a taxable benefit as it is like a wage for me

sorry!

anniebear · 25/07/2006 19:25

dont know about a p60 though!

anniebear · 25/07/2006 19:32

When we filled in the tax credits forms, I think we had like a check list to tick, carers allowance being one of them. we also were meant to tell them that our DD had gone from High rate to Middle rate. we didnt know this and now owe tham 2 years and near £2000 [cry]

found the below on a website

If you are married, have a civil partner or have children

If you qualify for Carer's Allowance you may be able to get extra money for your husband, wife, civil partner or another adult who lives with you and cares for a child or children you get Child Benefit for.

If you receive Child Tax Credit any Carer's Allowance received will be taken into account as income.

and I will shut up now

sorry

won't have made you any less worried will I!

emmalou78 · 25/07/2006 19:51

It is a taxable benefit, and will affect the amount of tax credit you qualify for, sorry.

I informed them when I stared receiving it in 2005, and then in february this year I informed them of a wage rise for DP, it turned out taht despite them knowing I had carers allowance htey'd forgooten to include it as income, so we had ourn paymets topped till mid april and they are only back at a reasonable rate now...

thats no more reasuring then annie, but if it were me, I'd rather know.
