Looking to the future - where's the best environment for ASD young adult?

My DS is 11, and has S&L disorder/ASD, dyspraxia, history of epilepsy. I'm feeling a bit new-year morose and wondering what the future holds. We're in London now but have lived in surrey in the past and I do wonder where a vulnerable young man like him is likely to receive the best support. I'd also be really interested in anyone's opinions as the what sort of environment might be best, e.g. Town, city etc. for being in a community and making friends. Any older parents out there with experiences to share?

The Shaw Trust does some amazing stuff for young adults re work training opportunities in West Wales. It's one of the reasons I relocated from London down this way. I'm also finding that the general level of tolerance from both the public and professionals is much higher here for odd behaviour so DS is able to access far more clubs/activities than he could in London. (He's 9). People generally have so much more patience with him and are far more accepting of his differences.

My sibling has SN's and services for young adults have deteriorated significantly over the last decade or so for teens and adults in the capital. I know a sibling is not the same as a child but if she'd left school in the last decade she wouldn't have been able to achieve half what she has in London I'm sure.

As for environment, I favour a small town over a city. One that has lots of active churches and clubs like scouts etc. Enough leisure activities to go out and meet people, make friends but less over whelming than a large city for learning independence. Good transport links to a major hospital are deffo needed for all those appointments. In a rural village the range of same age companions may be too narrow, especially if the village Queen Bee decides she doesn't like you.
