I was wondering if anyone knew of a KS2 literacy wettest, similar to Mathletics or the like but for literacy??

Literacy is the area where all DS's SN's converge & I've not found one "complete" resource like mathletics or maths whizz. (Severe dyslexia + poor receptive language + rigid thinking + dyspraxia etc). I've had a look at several of the US based homeschool curriculums for literacy too but none of them have seemed sufficiently able to cater for my innate laziness to justify the cost as yet in the same way sites like mathletics do.

However I do use bits and bobs from these resources from time to time:-

Free stuff:-
resources.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/literacy/index.htm

primarygamesarena.com/literacy

BBC Bitesize

www.lola.landscore-primary.devon.sch.uk/year5+6.html

Spelling- www.tutpup.com/plays/new/2-word-game

Free pdf books - amblesideonline.org Great for helping you select age appropriate classics that can either be read onscreen or printed. I like selecting texts with a nice varied vocab to help DS with his language comprehension development so am very keen on classic literature, even if I have to read it out loud to him.

Grammer - look for youtube "school house rocks" videos - sing along to the songs to learn the grammer rules.

Other than that all my resources are the old fashioned book sort. I do like galore park "Junior English" series for using as a framework though. (buy 2nd hand at abebooks.co.uk rather than brand new ffs!). It's a bit old school like they use in the independent sector rather than PC state school fluffy stuff though.

Lapbooks - www.homeschoolshare.com/level_4_lapbooks.php
I pick a theme for literacy and we eventually produce a lapbook on a topic. this site has some free ideas to get you going. This is because I have to break down DS's learning goals for each session to such a degree e.g we can either work on handwriting OR spelling but we can't do both in the same lesson or he gets overwhelmed. This allows us to build up each component brick by brick. If you are used to precision teaching you'll know what I'm getting at.

I also produce my own worksheets for specific topics like tricky spelling etc along the lines my Mum has taught me (originally dyslexia association qualified before she got too fed up with their money grabbing ways lol!). Happy to help if you need help along those line if you pm me.
