Finally got to see a good paed re constipation, our son has always with held his poos and his usual paed advised not to toilet train him. Well she's now on maternity leave so we got a referral to a different doctor who told us how to retrain his bowels, very simple just getting him used to sitting on the toilet, then making him sit for 5 mins (using a sand timer) after every meal and before bed. Doc said, I must warn you this could take years..... I am so chuffed for our boy cos he got wee-ing on the toilet in 12 hrs and has not had an accident yet (that was on Friday last week) and now he's got used to pushing out poops on the toilet too! I'm just so pleased for him!

Wow, that's great!

Excellent. We are still not 100% trained, however, having a sucessful poop and pee was one of the hardest bit.. Once we had a few pees and poops in the toilet the rest was a lot of prompting and reminding - but that was down to me, my daughter didnt have to do much - KWIM?

The bit they have to do is sit and do something - we cant do it for them..

On a side note, one of the doctors isnt following the guidelines then - right?

Toni, that's such an achievement! Brag away!

I can remember saying, years ago and before I was on MN, if we could only crack the daily pooing in his pants, nothing else would bother me. It was the worst thing to deal with, especially out and about. He's still (age 14 with ASD) a bit dodgy and skiddy, TMI, but now at least changes his own pants and gets along to the toilet himself.
