@Just recieved this in my email. Its a local school to me
Welwyn Hatfield MP, Grant Shapps, was delighted to be invited to visit the Chrysalis
School for autism last week. The school was opened at the end of 2005 after
years of determined work by parents of autistic children in our area.
Head teacher Sue King said, "Chrysalis is extremely proud to have Grant as its
patron, pride he clearly shared when he visited us."
The School was set up after parents of two local autistic children got together
and realised that they shared the same frustration. They recognised that if they
wanted to continue the huge benefits that their children?s home-based Applied
Behaviour Analysis (ABA) programmes gave them and their families, then they would
need to be taught in a small school environment.
The head teacher continued: "Grant?s natural ability to build bridges has helped
Chrysalis establish itself within the local community since opening in December
last year. Staff, parents and pupils were all inspired by his sparkle but none
more so than young William (pictured). Staff watched in amazement as the non-verbal
founding pupil made eye contact and reached out to touch Grant in a way we had
never seen before."
The MP said "This is a wonderful project and I am very proud to be its patron;
I believe the Government should proactively back parents who want to ensure that
their children receive the best possible specialist education."
Chrysalis School currently has two pupils with others joining soon and is now
looking for its own permanent school site
