Anybody had this? They are not quite children DS has made up they are children from the Green Balloon Club. They seem to be around quite a bit DS is upstairs in bed sleeping with Lily Rose. :)

I haven't discouraged him and it does seem to relax him to feel they are there with him. He doesn't socialize much out of school and he is an only child, so I suppose it just stops him feeling lonely.

Any thoughts?

Well I for one think it's lovely (no actual knowledge, but this is my feeling). His choice of sleepover friend is excellent! It wouldn't worry me at all.

My DS used to have George, his imaginary brother, for a couple of years. But one day, George left to become a soldier and he hasn't been seen ever since Grin

Ds had a imaginary friend called George too! He ended up with a whole family of imaginary friends, including a dog!

He hasn't mentioned them for a couple of years now.

I remember telling the paed about his imaginary friend, as i felt it was a sign of a good imagination. Later she asked me does ds ever talk to himself, I replied no. She then said what about his imaginary friend! It never occurred to me, that talking to an imaginary friend, was in fact talking to yourself!

Thanks everyone, good to know this is not uncommon. I did feel it was encouraging that his imagination could do this.

Lily Rose got him out to the woods today for a walk too. So I think it's helpful at the moment. :)

Happy new year everyone!

I had an imaginary friend as a child ! Lol! I am not ASD or anything like that but I am an only child. My "friend" in my mind was clever and popular and pretty, everything at the time I wasn't. I vaguely remember being lonely and unhappy at the time at school. As my life went on and it became more confident she 'vanished'. I am sure there are different reasons for it but my parents were quite worried at the time as I used to talk out loud to her!! GrinGrin For me it was a phase. I was about six I think x

DD has enough imaginary pets to fill a zoo, they are her friends.

But I'm not allowed to call them imaginary, they are invisible

They have names of RL people though
