He's 14 and has autism. He also has Erbs Palsy and he's had 2 operations and years ago they said that there was no more they could do, he had all the fuction he was ever going to have, all that could be done now was exercises to build muscle, keep everything as flexible as possible, etc.
Well, he has heavy keloid scaring from his ops which is painful but he won't allow me to massage it, which the pysio says would help.
his shoulder blade is winging but he won't wear his supports.
His elbow is becoming fixed and he appears to be losing some of his (previously amazingly good for the severity of his injury!) function, but he won't do his exercises.
he won't wear his wrist weight.
He won't do his stretches.
he won't do his fine motor skills practice (se?)
he understands (or at least says he does) that the consequences of letting that arm 'go' is that he won't be able to use it. That does not motivate him. It is his left arm, he is right handed, he has always found a way round everything and I just think he doesn't see the value of his left arm [boggle]
I have had many conversations with the physio and ot who insist that I must not force him (since he's nearly 5 10 to my 5 1 I don't think I could anyway!)
Do you have a child that has to have daily physio but is resistant? how do you motivate / convince them?
