Is it normal they stop DLA 5 months before DD reaches 16 ? Any advice for PIP application

DD with ASD, receives DLA at highest rate of care and middle rate of mobility. I received a letter that they will stop DLA and that we need to apply for PIP. OK, but is it legal to stop DLA 4 months before she will be 16?

I have so much on my plate now, I can't put my thoughts together to fill the applications form for PIP. Is there anu guide, like Cerebra but for PIP. Could anyone share any tips. Thank you.

I would imagine it means they aren't stopping your dd's dla you just need to apply for pip now as it could take up to four months to process the claim. Her dla shouldn't stop until the pip decision has been made.

Pip is actually more favourably than dla for adults with asd so I wouldn't worry too much.

They are stopping DLA in 2 weeks while DD will be 16 in May.

What was the original end date for your dd's dla. Was it in two weeks or her 16th birthday?

Did you not receive a renewal form for dla around five and a half months ago because you are supposed to receive one about six months before the award ended. If not its probably got lost in the post and you are having to apply for pip as you left it too late to renew dla due to you dd's age.

When you applied for DLA last time, what was the end date on your award? They can't give you two weeks notice of a stoppage, so you must have had some knowledge that you would have it stopped at this point?

You say she's on middle rate mobility, but there is only lower or higher. If it's lower, the good news is that with standard rate PIP for mobility (equivalent to low rate mobility DLA) you're entitled to a 50% reduction in car tax.

No I didn't receive a renewal form . I received a letter last January when DD was 14 saying we will need to apply for PIP in January 2014 because DD will be turning 16. I didn't understand that they will stop DLA this January. I just understood we will have to apply. She is turning 16 in May. I think last time DLA was awarded in July 2011 and was supposed to be reviewed when she turns 16. I don't understand where January comes from.

Any idea whether I can do something so that they continue paying until May?

I read about PIP and it appears DD is supposed to call them and have an initial assessment on the phone Shock.
There is also a face to face assessment Confused. She is just going to answer "I don'y know" to all questions or provide random rubbish. How does it work for ASD DC? Any MNers experienced with this?
