I've posted before about trying to get direct payments for my 3.5 year old ds. Ds has asd with severe learning difficulties. I would go as far to say he may have a profound learning difficulties in some areas. He has no understanding of language, nor any play skills. In a recent report the Ed Psychologist placed him at under 12 months for some things. It was his teacher who suggested we try for direct payments.

I've always known sw not keen for us to have direct payments and we are currently undergoing assessments etc but don't hold out much hope. Anyway I was chatting to her today on the phone and she said she felt that we may not be successful because of ds age as all three year olds require a high level of care. I found her comment to be highly offensive and told her so. To be honest I just feel like giving up on the idea of direct payments. Feeling hurt as well.

Silly mare, what a ridiculous thing to say Angry

Good for you for saying something to her. Try and forget it. Sadly we all come across so many people in the 'professions' who really have no idea, but assuming she has no bearing whatsoever on the decision about DP don't let it put you off.

Will/have you applied for a statement?

Hi - yes we have a statement already and he attends special school with a 2:1 ratio. How she can say his care needs are the same as an average three and a half year old is beyond words. His main problem is focus and attention - its practically zero! To be honest I don't think she has bothered to read any of his reports. DWP have given him an indefinite award at age three!!!
