What should be in a statement for mainstream secondary?

Just had a draft amended statement through for DS, who is in Y6. Our LA very rarely update statements following an annual review, so this is my chance to try and get a few changes in.
DS, who has ASD, has come on in leaps and bounds since the statement was written. He no longer needs 1:1 support, and he's doing extremely well academically. What he really needs now is a "guardian angel" - someone who will watch from the sidelines and intervene only if necessary, and who will explain to him all the unwritten rules of teenagedom. How can I phrase that in statementing language???

Watching with interest.
What does your current statement offer, in terms of provision?

Don't decrease any provision, the move to secondary means it will be a completely different ball game for your ds. In reality a good 1:1 will shadow and intervene only when necessary, the aim being to help your ds towards becoming an independent learner. It will always be much easier to cut back on support than to get it increased.

What eatyourveg wrote in its entireity.

What was your DS's Y5 review like?. The Y5 is what is known as the transition review for secondary, the Y6 review is very much a formality following on from this in comparison.

Oops, not been back for a while, so hadn't seen your messages! I've just had an amended statement through which incorporates almost all of the changes I had requested. They've not decreased the hours (he's currently got 20 hours), and yes I agree this would be completely the wrong time to cut back on support. They've added, at my request, that DS needs a high level of pastoral support, and that this should include strategies to promote acceptance and understanding for DS among his peers, as well as strategies to help DS make friends and understand social conventions. They've taken out the requirement for weekly home-school liaison and termly review meetings, which I'm not happy about. Really worried that I won't have any idea about what's going on at secondary school. Although even with that in the statement, I had no idea that DS had been bullied until other parents told me... nobody ever thought to write anything about that in his weekly home-school book! Angry

Attila, the Y5 review didn't result in any changes to the statement - my LA doesn't to amendments unless they absolutely have to!
