Hi,
I found out today that my ds's paed asked for a salt to do an in school assessment in conection with his asd dx. ( the paed told us at last meeting when she did an ados he scored highly enough to be given an asd dx but as he also has a disordered speech disorder that she couldnt say if this affected the result)
Apparently this assessment happened on Wednesday ( i only found out as I phoned the paed to check when our next appointment was),
neither the school or paed informed us.
Even though my ds's teacher had to phone me up on Wednesday at lunch time as my ds had locked himself in the toilet crying.

Anyway sorry what I was hoping for is that someone could tell me what would have happened at this assessment please?

Tia

Hi mumof5, I'm in the middle of the nhs dx process and statutory assessment with my dd at the moment and I know how frustrating it is when professionals turn up at school when you knew nothing about it. You feel like the last to know anything that's going on concerning your own DC.
I'm shocked the school didn't think to mention it to you when you spoke to them about your DS being upset. Was that why he was upset?
I'm not sure exactly what they would have done in the assessment, the reports my dd has had have just been a short report on how her receptive/ expressive language skills are but they see her at school once a fortnight and base it on this. Does your DS have regular salt?
When I've heard somebody has been out to see dd I ring them up and speak to them about it and ask for a copy of the report to be sent to me (they may do that anyway). Also, school always know in advance when they are coming so tell them you would like to know next time.

Hi Osospecial,
Thanks for replying. It is so frustrating you think your getting somewhere and then you seem to go backwards.
My ds has very high anxiety and is really struggling with the Christmas plays and party's. He was supposed to do a play on Wednesday afternoon so tbh I think it was probably due to the play and the assessment.
Before September he was getting blocks of 4 weekly salt sessions then 4 weeks off iykwim. However now his salt assesses him once every half term and sends school the work to do with him for 10 mins a day. However this only happens very sporadically.
I am now waiting for the paed to let me know what the report says.

I hope your journey to dx and sa goes smoothly.

Thanks mumof5, hope yours goes smoothly too, everything takes so long and goes so slowly doesn't it!
My dd has speech problems too and paed had always said let wait and see how her language develops to see if social skills improve etc! She now says dd probably does have ASD as language/social hasn't improved much and because we had private ASD assessment done and clear dx from them

Hi Osospecial,
That's exactly what our paed says my ds has a disordered speech disorder. He also has sensory processing disorder and hypermobility.
Where did you get your private dx and how much was it?
My ds is 5 how old is your dd.
I have to say even though ideally neither of us would have to face these battles it is nice to have found someone in such a similar situation.
Feel free to pm me anytime.
