School Christmas and ASD Grrrrrrrr.......................

We are having a nightmare 2 weeks at the moment and it has demonstrated to me how the school just don't understand ASD at all. The school had Christmas lunch in a different room with decorations and no warning at all. We now got Christmas jumper day and all the children are going to a panto this afternoon so they are all hyped up. DS is coming home at lunchtime. We got plays parties..................the list goes on.

He behaved really badly in assembly today he was taken out and now I hear he has been taken out a lot this week from someone mother. They were singing a song that by the end they were shouting!! No wonder DS wanted to get out...so did I. I think they're are reinforcing the bad behaviour by taking him out. That's what he wants. The SENCO is not there today otherwise I would have seen her straight away. Now I'm dreading the school play in case the same thing happens.

I was going to suggest to them that maybe they could give DS computer time if he behaves in the play, rather than taking him away.

Sorry if this jumbled my brain is buzzing I had no idea things were so bad, there's nothing in the home to school book. :(

Any advise please

DS1 stayed in his classroom with an iPad while his class were performing, yesterday. He was so stressed that he hardly stopped for breath until about 5pm. Rant! Rant! Rant! he was insisting he wasn't going back to school, this week, and I was half tempted to agree with him. It's much better for him when he has his regular work to avoid doing :o

Anyhow, he was a lot calmer, today and is now looking forward to tomorrow's party. Unlike one of his friends who has been in a right state because he hates non-uniform situations at school. DS2's staying in uniform, mind, so this boy will probably hide with him - DS2 adores him!

Well my decision about whether to keep DS off has been made for me. He's woken up with awful conjunctivitis and got antibiotic eye drops. He's happily playing cbeebies next to me and seems to feel painful eyes are better than being school. Xmas Smile

DS2 yr2 did his first ever last day of term today, having missed out on the school play, Christmas dinner and class party (gave him those days off as he was really struggling). Despite it being bring your own toy day and having to get through 2 dvds which he hates with a vengeance, he got through it - just about - and I'm so proud!

Hurrah for the holiday and some very low key down time...well done everyone for making it through the worst term, I wish you all a very calm and happy Christmas whatever you are doing.

can I second the "yay made it to friday"

thought we had got away without the sickness bug too. he liberally coated the car interior about 10 minutes from home. --> Xmas Envy

The YD went in yesterday for his last day, and held it together! (Had Wednesday off to avoid scary church carol service)

Today he had a low key day before his birthday party - but combined tiredness and excitement (unsurprisingly led to a screaming meltdown. We are getting better at managing them and he was back in control for the party :)

BlackeyedShepherdswatchsheep I really feel for you. I agree you get them out and think phew. Poor you and DS, hope it doesn't last long.

Donki Enjoy the party. :)

Wishing us all a quiet and restful Christmas. xx
