Tourette's? Eye rolling tic? Extra time in tests?

I have captured on video a few minutes of DS1's new tic. He is borderline AS (no dx, as fell just under dx criteria), has SpLD and undx SPD.

I am freaking out a bit. He has had tics since aug 2012, but not very obvious ones, like opening his eyes wide and stretching his muscles under his nose, but this new tic takes it to a new level. He opens his eyes wide, then the eyes dart back and forth, left and right, for a few seconds. He was doing this for the best part of an hour last night :( it is very obvious.

I am going to the docs on Fri to ask to be referred to the neurologist his brother saw who dx him with Tourettes at Easter this year. I am not certain he would dx DS1 with TS as he doesn't really have vocal tics, unless you count him repeating words and phrases over and over. But I think that is more of a stim.

Anyway, I spoke to SENCO this morning. She started to talk about applying for extra time in tests as she appreciated my point that he must be having a hard time seeing if his eyes are darting all over the place. What evidence do I need? Have others been in a similar situation and managed to get extra time?

Hi, I dont have any experience of this but didnt want to read your post and not reply. You must be worried about your ds.

My ds has a diagnosis of Autism. He has a repetitive movement that he does with his eyes. It looks like his eyes are flickering and rolling. I find it worrying when I see my ds doing it but a neurologist assured me that it was not ds having seizures.

My ds is only 5 so is not doing any tests and his eye rolling and flickering does not last long.

I hope you get some good advice from others.

Yes, I am concerned :( fortunately it seems he hasn't done it much today, so didn't have a problem at school. I am (fairly) certain it is a tic as we have TS in the family and he has others.

I hope you get an appointment with the neurologist soon. And I hope you find it easy to arrange the additional time for your ds when he has tests. Good luck.

I hope you get the appointment, but sadly the common refrain seems to be "let's wait and see how it goes..." DS1 has had certain tics since he was 4yo (he's 7yo now) and another one that developed about 4 months ago (very similar to what's described on here - head shaking and eyes rolling up) and is now so frequent that his teachers have brought it up to me. The paed's reaction? "Let's wait and see how it goes..." It's making me so frustrated.

I didn't bother going when the first ones appeared as I know they wait for a year anyway, but we are well over that now.
With DS2(his younger brother) he was dx with TS at our first neuro appt as he fitted the criteria perfectly, plus my DF has TS and DH had tics as a child.....they've come back too :(

The doctor was happy to refer, so back in the waiting game......

It is good the doctor has made the referral. I hope you dont have to wait too long.

I think his brother was seen in about two months. The doctor thought it probably was TS again, but wasn't overly worried as we kind of know what we are dealing with.
