I'm a bit concerned that my DD's walking has become worse since using Piedro boots.

Hi, my nearly 9 year old daughter has SLD, co-ordination difficulties, hyper mobility and poor muscle tone. She was prescribed Piedro boots about 6 months ago due to her feet rolling outwards. She has twisted shinbones which causes this.
The boots have helped her walking when she has them on. She can walk further and doesn't complain of pain all the time. I noticed recently though while she was walking bare foot, that her feet are rolling out far more now, and it's a very noticeable difference. It actually makes me cringe! I'm just thinking she's going to twist her ankle any minute.
Could it be that she's relying too much on the boots and it's making her muscles weaker? If so, what can we do about it? The boots are standard ones with an insole which holds the foot in a natural position.
Not sure what to do now. Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks.

It could be. We were told to keep dD's boots on at home too.

Thank you, our Dr didn't mention to us about keeping them on at home. I wonder if that's the same for all children?

mummyloveslucy - yes, providing external support runs the risk that the muscles which used to provide the support (inefficiently and incompletely) weaken when some of the strain is taken away from them. Haven't you been given any exercises or other advice? I would go back and ask: she should be getting proper advice from a physiotherapist who knows a lot about hypermobility in young, growing people.
