You use it for things for his benefit/needs. What they are saying is you don't pay yourself for caring for him, instead if he needs for example an extra harness in the car because he pulls his seat belt off, then you can pay for this with the money, or for travel costs to therapy sessions, or for a laptop to help him communicate better etc etc. It helps to pay for his care and needs. With DD we put the money into a separate account and use it as we need to for her. If there is money left when she is older and able to manage it herself (hopefully) then we will let her have that money.

Well DS2's has always gone into the general financial melting pot..food, petrol, life! And that's for 14 yrs!
No one has every questioned it. It wouldn't be much good him having a nice big savings if we couldn't eat/pay the bills, and his DLA helps!

(I hasten to add it buys anything he needs /SN holiday clubs etc too)

That sentence is about taking a fee for dealing with the DLA. You are allowed to spend the money for his general benefit, which includes food, clothing, family holidays, etc. You can't leave him without basic needs met and go to the Maldives once a year.
