I could not get him to go in today ..and feel such a pathetic mother.

He stood his ground and would not enter the school gate ....sobbing ,hyperventailting and almost sick Sad

He would have had to have been forcably carried into school by 2 people (shoulders and legs)

No talking ,reasoning bribing was working.

I took him home and he has done loads of work that I know is relevent to terms topics .....He did not have a fun day !

But....I could feel the wait, fear, anxiety lifted from him the moment we got in and quite happily got on with the work I set him.

This is his 3rd refusal but for nearly every other day he has to be prizz

ed off me at the door while he is sobbing.

I am going to go in to morrow and show them the work he has done at home and hope it will be classed as "educated off site "

Does it work like this ?

We have had a pinky promise that if he had today off he will go in ok till Christmas which might last a week

I am going to get him to mark the days off on the calender to know the end of term is in sight .

I know if I was allowed to keep him home educated 1 day every 2 weeks I could work this ....

Any one managed it ??

Should say he is 9 ..year 5

Thanks

Yes go and see the Head and ask them to put something in place.

In our case the EWO got involved in secondary after we contacted them. Try not to worry too much about that (it's hard not to though I know).

Thank you both for replying .

zzzzz ...Is a reduced time table an official thing on his notes /records sort of thig ??

thelady I am so desparate at the moment I don't care if EWO get involved ,as at least it will show I / we have a problem and nothing to hide ! I am scared of being fined though !!

EWO can be helpful if YOU make the first approach & ask them to help tbh. They have the authority to put pressure on schools to make sure support is in place & can help with statement applications etc.

It's an odd one because if their involvement is because school has asked them it's horrid, but if the parent asks first they can be an ally.

mine went onto part time for about a year - hes now at a specialist independent school - the EWO never ever came anywhere near me. I did have a GP note excusing him from the afternoons. he would then finally not go at all and it was only when the GP signed him off for 4 weeks that the EWO phoned the GP, I never heard from her.

Thanks for the advice....Good to know that I can approach the EWO.

At least it will show that I am concerned ....and not giving in to a child who is saying "Oh I don't feel like going to school today "
