Still struggling with ABA/AR situation

I had a meeting with my HT today. She wrote a glowing report for my dd which places her quite age appropriate and has recommended no more statement. Offered to allow my ABA consultant to observe termly and offered 6 hours per week of her own time with dd implementing IEPs.

I am really lost as to why a HT would reject funding. In any case, I think dd should have TA support atleast...and statement should continue. Can people give me strategies on how to get this done or ideas on how to drag this for sometime so we can choose a primary school place of our choice?

Isn't it good a ht thinks your dd has improved so much I was told at ar last week dd2 is definitely best placed in her sp sch

autumnsmum...there is a background to this decision of HT. it is good dd is doing well but from intensive aba support to nothing - not even LSA support is troubling me a lot.

How old is your DD?

How long has she been at the school?

dd is only 4 yrs old. she has been at this school for a year now

Is she in reception?

I just wonder if the head wants to get rid of the statement before she reaches statutory school age...

Either way, my argument would be that she is far too young (i.e. she has not had the statement for long enough) to know if she no longer needs a statement, as all of her progress to date has been with support.

I also think citing the change between reception and Y1 is a good argument for keeping the statement, as nobody has any idea how she will cope with the change of structure etc.

she is still in nursery. next year reception

Hmm...it may well be that she's currently funded by the LA on Early Years Inclusion funding, but when she comes of school age she will be funded via the LA, but the school will have to put in £6k first.

Regardless, the HT can only call it as she sees it and if she is of the view that your DD doesn't need the support, that's her view. If your view is different, you can make that representation to the LA.

I suspect though, that they aren't going to go along with 'might need' support. Their answer would be, I suspect, that they should cease to maintain but that you can apply for further SA if the situation changes in Yr 1, etc.
