This is long, so sorry in advance I'm trying not to leave anything out.
My ds (5) has asd, spd, hypermobility, and disordered speech disorder. Last year school were horrendous at supporting him and insisted there was nothing 'wrong' and he didn't need any support. Things got so bad we deregistered him and home educated.
This year for a lot of reasons we have put him back into ms, school have made the right noises iykwim? School action plus, Iep ( not seen this yet), saying they will offer 1 on 1, salt, inclusion support and ep.
However none of this seems to be happening. I have spent the last 2 weeks trying to make an appointment to see the senco.
My ds is really struggling again, he has gone back to biting his nails and constantly has inedible objects in his mouth chewing them ( I've brought him chewy toys but he won't use them). The meltdowns and associated violence is back to at least once a day.
He is crying and saying he doesn't want to go to school, it's too noisy, doesn't like the whistle, it's boring, he doesn't like the Christmas play, singing, dressing up.
I hate seeing him struggle like this and it obviously affects his siblings too.
Does anyone have any advice please? Thank you for reading this.

This all happened as well because his additional needs were never met by school, small wonder you had to HE.

"This year for a lot of reasons we have put him back into ms, school have made the right noises iykwim? School action plus, Iep ( not seen this yet), saying they will offer 1 on 1, salt, inclusion support and ep".

Has he gone back to the previous school?. They are basically failing him again. I would honestly not bother any more with this one and start looking at other schools. I would not trust them as far as I can throw them.

With regards to what they are offering i.e 1 on 1 and SALT (particularly if they are talking about SALT in school) are usually only obtainable via a Statement of Special Needs. Inclusion support is all very well and good but some schools do not take any notice of what they say and what they say too is also not legally binding.

IEP is also not known as Individual Empty Promise for nothing either.

I would make the Statement application yourself to the LEA in question (this should also trigger the involvement of the EP) and asap too.

IPSEA's website is helpful generally www.ipsea.org.uk. Would suggest you read that along with arming yourself with a copy of the SENCOP (SEN Code of Practice).

If you have also not applied for DLA for DS to date I would suggest you do that as well. Cerebras guide is good, do not apply for it without any such assistance.

Apologies if you hate the idea but could you try for a statement and see if your Dc could attend a special school . My dd2 is four and goes to a sp sch nursery for a half day and she loves it .there are seven children in her class and a teacher and three teaching assistants . She went to mainstream nursery and got so stressed I had to pick her up early .good luck anyway

agree with Attilla. This school are failing him again this year, you can't trust them. Sorry to be so negative. Also as Attilla says, these days school age kids find it v hard to get SALT without a statement.

Hi,
I think you are right about getting a statement for ds, there is a good speech ss near me I would like him to go to.I was told that I wouldn't get one yet as I have to prove that he can't access the curriculum at his current ms? Is this true how can I prove it?
Attila - yes it is the same school as his older siblings already attend and there is a new senco and head. But you are right they are failing him again. I already get Dla for him thanks to previous fab advice on this forum, thank you for making sure I knew about this though.
Thank you again for your support and advice.
