20 month old non-stop tantrums

Tearing our hair out with our 20 month old DD... We have had 3 months of gradually worsening behaviour so that now life is hellish. Every transition is horrendous - she doesn't want to be changed/washed/dressed etc & has huge tantrums over virtually everything. It can take 90 mins to Change a nappy or get her dressed..... She mostly refuses so we end up leaving her shoes & coat on most of the time, even indoors.

Tantrums is putting it mildly... She seems to throw things a lot.... She isn't saying loads but can say probably 10 words & whilst she doesn't play much ... i think she seems normal in other ways.

Her 4.5 yo brother has a tentative diagnosis of ASD with PDA. He was very very difficult but this is a whole new ball game. What the hell do we do? I have got the GP to refer us to the CDC. But this doesn't help me get through tomorrow or the next day. And I'm assuming that CDC will want to wait & see anyway....? Has anyone got any ideas or advice please?

Oh and she is also quite controlling... Hates me talking to anyone else! Has to have things done her way etc etc.

I don't know how to make life less awful, e are flummoxed.

Good idea poulter... Thing is I know what sets her off -

  • not being held (for ex if I'm trying to cook)
  • changing her nappy
  • trying to put another nappy on
  • dressing / undressing: she regularly ends up wearing her pjs all day
  • if I try to take her sleeping bag off
  • when I need to put her sleeping bag on
  • dislikes the bath & screams her head off if I wash her hair
  • coming into the house after being outside (she wants to stay in the car, buggy...)
  • getting in & out of the buggy / carseat

As you can imagine - the above takes up a lot of the day...!

So I'm thinking it might be sensory...??

Me neither. Good idea I will check...

She's always falling over as well and bashing her head. As things have got bad quite suddenly I'm just now wondering if she could have a head injury. She's also done a lot of head-butting....
