I posted a while back... we have a diagnosis

I posted months back about concerns I had about dd and possible dyspraxia.
She has been assessed and dyspraxia has been confirmed. As has ADHD which if I'm honest didn't see at all when it was brought up but now I'm more informed it is so blindingly obvious.
We are working towards a multi agency meeting asap to get her Childs plan written up. She goes to secondary school in two years(p6 in Scotland just now) and it is vital to have all that in place and working before that.
Her school have been fab. Cannot fault them at all working hard to put strategies in place to help her concentrate and support her.
She made me so proud. She stood up in class to tell her teacher about her diagnosis and basically said I fall over, I flap my hands I do lots of this stuff I might get laughed at for but I can't help it this use.
I did worry about the impact this may have with other children but there has been none at all. On fact there is one boy she clashes with and he approached her and said that he had been teasing her bit he would never tease her for things like her condition...progress I suppose.

Thank you to all that gave me advice to push when I knew something was amiss. Was great to have you all and dyspraxia wasn't something I would have known much about without mumsnet.
Oh and the paed suspects I am dyspraxic also after taking a case history.

Yay!! Great news, my Dd3 has benefitted greatly from having an official diagnosis instead of just being thought of as weird, arrogant and naughty.

Good luck Smile

That's great news! Who diagnosed dyspraxia? Is it same team that dx ASD do you know. My Ds sch have mentioned getting Ds referred to look at possible dyspraxia. He doesn't flap his hands or fall over a lot but he is very very clumsy.

Skylar the initial appointment was with the dr in our area that does initial assessments for asd etc. He was the one that initially picked up the ADHD.
He then referred her on to a physio who did her own assessments as well although he felt that was just a formality they had to go through he was fairly certain she would confirm it.
The flapping she does comes from the ADHD as opposed to the dyspraxia.
I was astounded at some of the fine motor exercises that she struggled with. She is waiting to see the OT now.

Ok many thanks for that. I'm hoping we don't get another referral to asd pead. It must be a relief to know what you are dealing with. Thanks again.

Great, ds had the dyspraxia dx on Monday ( he had it back in September but hopefully this will get onto paper now). It's more seen in boys so great she got the dx ( ykwim - would be better if it was nothing)

Well done to your dd! She sounds very clever and I bet she is relived to know what is going on now

2boys totally know what you meant. It is such a relief really. I have spent so long wondering if I had spoilt her doing so much for her as she was my first. Funnily enough my mum always thought the same about me because I was the youngest. It was the more common in boys thing that also had me doubting it as well. It was me watching her on sports day when I promptly burst into tears that I realised there was definitely something needing looked at.

Well done for spotting it. I go to my local dyspraxia group and so far it's been very helpful and educational
