If your DC has 1-to-1 at lunchtime, who provides the support?

Is it a TA / LSA or a midday supervisor?

DS has ASD and is in Reception, he's been unable to cope with the dinner hall & playground. At the moment he's coming home in the middle of the day but the plan was for him to have 1-to-1 support for lunch & playtime so that he doesn't have to go in the playground.

I've seen today that the school is advertising the role as a midday supervisor position, with nothing in the job description to differentiate it from any of the regular midday supervisors. From what the SENCO said before, I'd expected it to be a TA role.

It's all a bit accademic really, because before I saw the advert I emailed the SENCO saying DS isn't ready to start staying for lunch yet, but I'd be really interested to know what's usual because I know it's going to be an issue at some point.

No, he doesn't have a statement.

That's what I was thinking, but wasn't sure if I was being unrealistic. Thanks!

Polter is that the funding that tops up after the school had met the inital £6k?

I don't think my ds would even need the funding topping up, looking at the rates of pay for TAs locally, as it's only for 7.5 hours a week. In fact the difference between that and the midday supervisors pay is virtually nothing so they're not even saving money doing it this way.

I'm not really sure what he needs at the moment - he seems to be surprisingly ok with the classroom parts of the day but he's not in full-time yet so I'm working on gradually building him up to that. The first couple of weeks of term, when he was coming home after lunch, were absolutely hellish.

I kind of expect he will need more support but I think I need to wait till he's a bit more settled to see how much. He only got the dx last week, so I could do with a bit of a breather before the next battle!
