Hi,I'm new to all this but would be grateful to hear any opinions regarding taking 12 year old to SEN tribunal, obviously wouldn't be attending full hearing, just to briefly give their views.

As an adult I found the whole thing very daunting and personally would do everything to keep my child out of there if I was you. You do have to look however at how he/she feels about it too. Perhaps you could ask your child to record a video to state how he/she feels about the situations or write a letter to the panel about it. Our daughter sent a short message via us that she wanted us to say for her which was simply "tell the judge I have autism and then he will understand". Of course that was her simplified view of a quick fix...if only it was that simple. Thankfully we were able to get everything we asked for and the panel did her justice.

Usually they deal with this by having the child in at the beginning to state her views, then you would be expected to arrange for someone to take her away. I'm sure they'd be very nice to her and it shouldn't be too daunting an experience. So really it depends on how you think she would cope, and whether you can be reasonably sure that she will support your case.

be careful with this...it depends on you child's difficulties and how they present.

The problem with my DS is on the surface he is fine, he is polite, non aggressive, and an all round good egg, the panel saw this (all 20 mins) and decided that he wasn't as bad as what my experts were saying (bearing in mind I have have different experts over numerous years all saying the same thing) and the limited/next to no evidence the LEA had was more of a true reflection..low and behold, a year on we are back at tribunal for the same fight, highlight the same issues and my son still struggling in the same areas becasue the panel not only came to the wrong decision, the provision they did give was still inadequate
