my sister had a baby 8 weeks ago but she came out not breathing, and then started to fit
she has about 7 fits a day and was tube fed till last week. docs say she has cp but not sure what tape till baby is 8 mths,
baby came out of hosp at 6 weeks so she is still very new to us.
my sister is only 17yrs old i'm 31 (big sister) she is coping very well but i do worry
has anybody else got a child or knows a child with cp what shall we expect?

I have a 4 yr old dd with CP there are verious levels of cp and as the doctors said to your sis as the baby gets older they'll be able to determine at what level the baby has it.

have you looked on the scope website that has some useless info on it.

congratulations to your sis on the birth of her baby by the way and congrats to being an aunt

our dd wasn't digaoised till she was 13 mnoths old as she wasn't reaching the normal mile stones that baby do that's how we noticed that things we're right.

DD has diplegical cerebal palsy that affects her legs and her fine motor skills - we we're told she's never walk - yet she is now dancing round the living room as i type this - she starts a mainstream school in september although mentally behind she's doing really well - she can't walk far and gets very tired but we're extremly proud of her

have answered on the other one but will copy and paste here

Hi I have a son with CP, I was 18 when he was born, he is now 8. CP is an umbrella term which covers, Diplegic (mainly legs) Quadplegic (all four limbs) Hempeplegic (one side). There is spastic CP, dystonic CP, hypotonic CP and many other forms.
My son is diplegic.
Unfortunely as the doctors have said, you can't tell what form of CP a child has until they are a bit older. Your sister should have been referred for physio which will her your niece to get her legs and arms moving and using her back. When the baby is 3 months old, she will be entitled to Disablity living allowence (DLA) and carers allowence. CTC also give an extra allowence on the total for the year, when you have a child with CP.
My son is 8 and can walk about, not for long and is very slow compared to his peers, he has a weekchair for distances. He is in mainstream school and doing very well.
The only other thing I will point is that no 2 children with CP are the same, they are always affected in different ways.
HTH

hi i was 16 when ds1 was born. He also was not breathing at birth and now has spastic diplegia cerebral palsy. He is 3yrs now and is a really happy little boy. He is able to communicate with people really well. It is just his physical side that is affect. He is unable to walk or stand and has only just been able to start sitting on his bottom, although he cannot do this for long and hasn't got great balance.
It can be hard to deal with sometimes and being told your child has any sort of disability is heartbreaking but when i see him smile and being really happy i know things will be alright and together we can get through things.
Your sister is always welcome to cat me.

Hi, my son is now 21 months old and has possible cp. He has no official dx but they are pretty sure. They think his problems started due to a urine infection when i was 28 weeks. He has has a few tests done and we are waiting for a repeat of these a year on. Not really sure what type he has but all his limbs are affected and he has poor vision and very low tone. He has come along in the last 6-8 months but geerally is still very behind.

He is so cute though and when he smiles its the best thing ever. I posted a pic of him "ds asleep again".
