Dd has had a big assessment lately down to her self harming behaviour.

The outcome of the assessment was that she had Adhd, which they gave her medication for. She also has a language disorder with "asd traits".

I went to an Adhd review on Wednesday and along with original person had another cp there as well.

Can you imagine how gobsmacked I was when this morning through the post I received a "diagnosis" of, in this order:-

Adhd
Asd
Language "delay"

Now tbh the Adhd and Asd I am fine with. I have only been saying for 5 years that she has Asd and no one has believed me Although I still think I should have been given an official face to face diagnosis rather than scrawled on a piece of paper.
Now the one thing I am furious about is the "language delay". Dd does not have a delay, everyone knows it's a disorder. So wtf is going on? If it is changed to delay then everything will be seriously f*ed up. I wish it was a delay but it isn't.

I have rang Camhs but no one is available (surpise, surprise).

Am I right to be so so upset? Infact disappointed sums it up better I think.

It's Blossomhill btw xxx

I think I would ask whover made the dx to explain why they think it's a delay rather than a disorder. That should give you both the chance to explain your pov.

It seems a bit`odd tbh to suddenly change it to "delay" after all this time. It might be a mistake that can be corrected easily.

It may just be a mistake, I hate it when Paed's etc use interchangeable dx's without thinking of the possible implications.

My concern would be the possible effect on dd's current & future eductaional placement. What is your LEA's take on asd kids in language provsion. We are having lots of difficulties here with ds4 who has language disorder & features of social communication disorder.

Hope it is just a mistake I would send letter back to be corrected.

P.S I always thought a language disorder has to be present for an asd dx but that is not the case where I live.

Thanks coppertop. Once I get hold of someone at Camhs (sigh) hopefully it will be explained properly!

Maddiemo - that's my concern. By changing from a disorder to a delay it really doesn't help placement wise.

Have spoken to head of unit and she said that the original person that saw dd agreed with her that it was traits and she had a language disorder. She also agreed that dd has a disorder not a delay (a delay would be so much better but that's not what she has!)

Honestly as if us parents don't have enough to deal with

I have seriously had enough of this bloody rollercoaster!!!!

Hope you feel a bit better soon Mrs G. I think sometimes professionals just don't think.

I read your thread about the weeing, my ds4 headbutts everything and like you I am bemused by it all. They both seem very impulsive. I have just submitted a DLA calim for ds4 and found it almost impossible to describe him!

Bloody hell MrsG! I bet is a typo or just a casual change without thinking. If you can't get through on the phone drop them a line. Hope you sort it out but agree with Fio its unlikely to affect placement etc but you do have to think ahead and keep on top of this sort of thing don't you?
