following on from my earlier post (no ones answered it yet :-( )

how easy is it to get a statement for dyslexia - daughter is now 10 - reading age 6 yrs 8 months, maths 7 years and spelling 7 years 4 months

general iq 41st percentile - reading 2nd centile (score 70)
spelling 7th centile (score 78) number - 2nd centile (score 69)
working memory - 4th centile

school only agreed iep and school action/plus last night. we are paying for a dyslexia teacher an hour a week - only started 2 weeks ago

Hello, I don't have any experience in this so am no help. However I can tell you that a friend's dd drifted through primary school with no help. Within weeks of starting Y7 the secondary school applied successfully for a statement for her.

She had been disgracefully let down by her primary school and could barely write her name in Y7.

Your dd is lucky to have you fighting for her, and it is possible to have a statement for dyslexia. I don't want to spread doom and gloom, but it may be different once EHCPS come in, if your dd does not have any health or care needs.

I think it is possible, with those stats you meet Surrey criteria for two years behind in two areas. I feel for you. At this age your daughter has been failed very badly by school

Hi bjkmummy, what NC levels is she on right now?

bjkmummy · 08/11/2013 19:48

she goes to school in the county next door to us who say that no statement if child is not more than 6 years behind - completely unlawful blanket policy - thankfully an application will go to our home LA who don't have such a policy. yes she has been very badly let down because she is a happy smiley girl and has just sat straight under the radar. we moved her 6 months ago as last class teacher admitted she forgot she was in the class - lots of hints about dyslexia but no one would call an EP in. current school say last school over egged her NC results to hide her true levels. new school though now stuck with their 6 year policy and the EP wouldn't see her so weve had her seen privately - new school also could let her down as well but seem to be trying to do their best with their hands tied. school size is 20 kids so tiny school so god knows how shes going to cope in secondary

her NC levels are:- reading 2a writing 2b maths 2b

she is year 5 but a sept born so missed year 6 by 8 days.

the schools LA policy is no statement unless less than level 1c at the end of year 6 but like I said we are in a different LA where we live. my LA employ no specialist teachers at all
