Baby 20 months - should I apply for DLA or wait?

His big brother is six with no diagnosis but he has dyspraxia SPd and possibly asd. The baby is developing the same way. Late to hit all milestones, no words yet, falls and trip all the time, can't play with any structure. Just mouths and trows toys. He is under a neuro disability pead and has been referred to physio, ot, sight test, hearing test, portage and for genetic screening.

So I feel he is going to nt- do I wait for this to be confirmed? See if he catches up by two Or get the ball rolling now? I know deep down he isn't going to fine, but I can't know for sure he will have his brother level of disabilty

Tbh, I think you'll find it hard to get DLA right now, because many 20 month olds throw toys, and no speech isn't an official concern until 3.

I'm not saying your instinct is wrong, just that it's going to be hard to meet the test of 'substantially more care than...' right now.

I agree. We applied for DS when he was 5 and it was renewed when he was 11. At. the renewal he was found to qualify in more areas, because the difference between him and a 'normal 11 year old' had widened from the differences he displayed at 5.

We applied for ds at just over a year and were originally turned down, but were awarded hr care at a reconsideration.

It is hard, because you can obviously see the potential issues with your ds2, but as Lougle says, at 20 months no words, falling and unstructutured play, and throwing/chewing toys are all fairly standard.
