Have 4 yr old ds started rec part time, he has global developmental delay and has just received a 20 hr statement. I just got a call from the school asking if he will be going to the pantomime with the rest of the class this dec. i said yes (thinking "of course he is"). He struggles to sit down and has a short attention span but my thinking was that even if he only watched half that would be great - and he would love it. I said, can't I come along, don't mind paying. School said, "oh not sure". I'm left feeling a little uneasy...am I making more of this than it is...experience please would be appreciated...I am eating for them to call back

I would press for either you to go with him, or at the very least for him to sit next to a TA (or, if he doesn't have one, the CT) at the end of the aisle, so he can have breaks if needed.

Yes I think he should go. It's inclusion isn't it? But agree with pp and ask how they will make sure that he is supported during the performance.

I personally would think it would be better if you didn't go. It's good for our DC to achieve these things without us.

Thank you for advice...wish I hadn't been so quick to volunteer now. I had just assumed when I saw the pantomime in the school diary that his TA would be with him as part of this statement - would you expect this?

Yes he needs to go and as there all four there be a lot of kids not able to sit though a whole pantomime , so at this age he's not going to be too much different from others in class . If he kind of kid who like visual stuff he may do better than some of the others in his class . They can and often do surprise you . His TA should be there to support him , if you go he may think you be allowed to go on other things and create in future if your not there . But only you know how your child is likely to be . So any problems that you can foresee would be good to mention to his TA beforehand so she can surport him though what should be a nice experience for him . Remember about loud noise , scary bits , could maybe watch something on you tube , see what he thinks of it .
