DD2 isn't coping

She's been up 4 nights in a row, worrying and panicking about school. Last night we could only get her to settle (at 12.45am) by allowing her to sleep in our bed and DH went to sleep in her bed.

I told the SENCO and she said she'd 'pop her head in'. I told her class teacher who said she'd 'have a chat with DD2'.

She's beyond anxious. She's saying that she's too poorly for school, that her germs will spread to everyone else. That her tummy will never get better, so she can't ever go back to school.

But then, when I get her there, she turns into 'daft DD2' and does two-feet hopping with her head tipped back, laughing, to her teacher. I know this is her default coping mechanism when she's overloaded, but her teacher sees a (somewhat bizarre) cute blonde girl.

Lougle, I've cried at your posts here, for both our DDs

Mine HAS a dx, but is not having support in school either.

DD has just told me that the best thing that could happen on a school day is that is wouldn't make her go.

My DD also smiles at everyone, she tells people she's happy and ok because she doesn't have the processing skills for recollection on issues that are troubling her.

No point to my post here really, just so much of what you say struck a chord.

There is always a point; thank you for posting, but I'm sorry you're DD is going through it too.

I spoke to her teacher today. I laid it on the line, so to speak, and she was very responsive. She said that yesterday, all DD2 had to do was copy a title from the whiteboard. When she didn't, her teacher wrote it out for her to copy. She STILL did something completely different!

I've told her teacher about her fixations, that I think she is on the ASD spectrum. I told her that at home she's asking why there is no gravity in space if there is gravity on earth, etc., which is a world away from the child she sees.

Glad teacher listened. Once school 'gets it', the worst is over

I'm not sure we're there yet, Maria, but the teacher is thinking, which is brilliant.

Yes it is. I just hope she thinks fast. DD2 has once again not settled this evening. Now she's fallen asleep on the sofa, on the promise that I'll definitely take her up to bed when I go.
