Ds (5) has receptive language difficulties. Standardised score receptively 72 wich is up from 54 two years ago.

He is in mainstream with support. Currently working well and school working well with us.

However he keeps getting in trouble at whole school assembly because he doesn't understand whats going on gets bored and starts messing. Any ideas for helping with this?

Hi Cat, does he have a statement? My DC has a receptive speech difficulty but also has a statement so things like asemblies i ask the TA to either miss completely or go for 5 minutes. The thing is i lean towards the "forget it" approach because i don't want the negative attention to bother her if she acts up in front of everyone. Besides, far more constructive things she could be doing then learning to sit still in assemblies at 5.
Thats my opinion anyway. Could the school support use this time to do a verbal exercise in the class whilst everyones out?

Yeah he does have a statement. Two hours one to one with a TA per day which so far seems to be fine. The school are very much into inclusion and not singling him out.

To be honest I get the impression not many of year one behave during assembly.
