I would love to attend one of Dr Attwoods seminars but its not likely to happen anytime soonHaloween Sad.
I have however come across a youtube recording of one of his more recent talks on Aspergers only last June, given to a gathering of professionals in Canberra. It is obviously an amateur recording so sound is a bit off-key in places but its really, really good.It is the entire 90 minutes speaking exclusively on Aspergers and is the closest I am going to come to hearing him speakHalloween Hmm.
I thought some of you might be interested in it.The link is here

Thanks for sharing - he's so inspirational.

Almost at the beginning of the video, he said "the youngest child I've diagnosed with autism was 3 weeks old" -Shock

This youtube video should be mandated for all teachers and LA officers.

It's so true.

I have just finally finished watching it and am Shock at the end of it when he tells of his aspie son who has become a drug addict and is in rehab for the 7th time.I never knew Tony Atwood had a son with As.Yes wetaugust it is really good and would be brilliant for teachers etc.

I sat through it nodding like a donkey.

He talked about special interests and mentioned 'drainage covers'.

I've been photographing manhole covers for 11 years Shock

Also about teaching yourself to read so you can read more about your special interest - that's exactly what DS did!

And he also mentions being able to dx AS in less than 5 minutes - so much for all this ADOS/diagnostic panel bollox that I've been moaning about for years.

I have an un-dx'd elDS1 whose behaviour is like Attwood's drug addict son - except mine's never been to rehab.

Oh wet I remember you posting ages ago about the manhole covers. My ds,13 with AS,didnt speak until 3, but looking back, the first real sign of AS was probably when at the age of around 2 he became fixated with drains and wherever we went we would have to stop at the roadside and peer into each and every drain .Drains must be quite a popular aspie interestHalloween Smile.
I also loved Dr Tony's description of the human brain developing..like a clearing in the forest with the largest tree being like the social area of the brain in the NT person but in Aspies the social area is more like a bush and in more pronounced ASD the social area of the brain is more like a flower.

Yes, the slides really explained the condition well. Everuthing he said made sense, including early intervention, which is something that we struggle to obtain.

I have quite a portfolio of manhole cover pictures Blush. But I know I am Aspie (DS's psych told me I was). Interesting too that he spent so much time on anxiety. That's the worst part for me - I could represent the UK in the Anxiety Olympics Sad

It was quite sad to hear about his son. It just shows what an uphill struggle we all have - including the experts.

Sad to hear about your ds wet.Hope things improve for him and you soon.It really is crap even for the experts as you say.As is certainly not selective is it?
