Teachers, perfromance related pay and a bit of SN

If anyone wants to help expel some myths there are some okay teachers though a bit ignorant about some things.

I dunno Ineed. Mostly the teachers have been alright though I didn't appreciate the comments at the end.

I think sometimes these thread start with all the teachers being really PC and then as it develops and they get annoyed the start making stupid statements.

I think teachers just don't know anything about SEN and are struggling with the crappy pressures the system piles on them regarding testing, national curriculum, middle management etc etc

This is not an excuse but it explains an occupational culture which has a siege mentality where they can't see the wood for the trees. Like the police.

I know. It's pretty miserable out there. I just wish that schools could understand that they are played by LAs against parents of children with SEN.

I don't know what good my posting on that thread is. In the past I have had PMs from people telling me that they have seen things they didn't before though are too scared to post and that gives me some comfort that it all isn't for nowt.

I think it is good to come out on the mainboard now and again and challenge a bit. Though it doesn't look like it I really do feel for teachers. I think they are shafted from every direction.

I am a teacher, when we make our targets for performance management, we have to target children who we aim to make 3 sublevels now, not 2. SEN children are also included, as we strive to make progress all round in the class, and do you know, sometimes they bloody well do make the targeted progress, sometimes the targeted non SEN children don't and sometimes the SEN don't.
It's not that the teacher or children haven't tried, it's just the targets have to be set and in a perfect world all children would make the desired progress. They don't, never mind the SEN children.

I was a teacher before having dc! I have a sn child which makes it all the more poignant (and distressing) that sn were never mentioned in my teacher training beyond differentiating for different abilities. I had previously worked in learning disabilities but I cringe when I look back at my naive, ignorant self.

Teacher training was crap for sen.

I am a teacher. I wish I wasn't. I trained over 20 years ago and the amount of training we got for SEN was laughable.

Damned if I do and damned if I don't.
