I posted a while back about DS and possible ADHD. I explained to the doctor about his inability to maintain eye contact, can't keep still unless drawing or on a screen, randomly lashes out, can get so angry he's literally shaking with rage, toileting issues ( pooing pants almost daily), doesn't appear to listen, constantly interrupting, makes random noises (hard to describe but will suddenly squark or similar) etc.

The GP observed him for 5 minutes then sent off a referral form which CAMHS wrote to me about saying they didn't see an issue. DS started school in September. He's already been sent out of class twice (that I know of) and his teacher says he doesn't listen, concentrate and needs to stop making silly noises when others are talking.

I'm not sure what to do. He may just be a normal 4 year old testing boundaries but he's displaying the behaviours at home and school and I don't want him constantly being told off if its an actual problem not just naughtiness.

It's a small school so I don't know who the SENCO is or even if I could ask them to have a look at him and see what they think.

If CAMHS have refused an assessment would the doctor try referring again? Could I pay for a private assessment?

Thank you. I'm going to have a look at that book and ask the GP to refer him again.

Go back to your GP and ask for a re - referral to either CAMHS or Community Paediatrician emphasizing that school are also seeing problems. It is unfortunately all too common to be refused assessment at first attempt. We were rejected once by CAMHS and twice by the community paediatricians before getting seen. I think the services are so overloaded they will reject people if at all possible but persistence does pay off eventually.

I just want to know if there is an issue so he can get help if needed. I hate the idea that he may be getting told off/sent out of classes if there is actually a real problem and he's not just being naughty spirited!

He has the GP tomorrow about his bowel issues so will bring it up again then.

I found the Vanderbilt assessment online. Would it be a bit odd if I asked his teacher if she could fill it out so I can see if it is a concern at school?
