strange eye blinking, squeezing? any idea what it could be?

ds (3.3 genetic condition, possible seizures, gdd, low muscle tone) has just started doing a strange eye blinking, flickering eyelid, then squeezing his eyes. Dh is worried it may be seizure related, but I think he seems too aware when it is happening for it to be that. I wonder if it is actually something that has happened to his eyes - it seems to happen more when he is tired, watching tv, looking at a book.

I have phoned gp, and tried to film it (with limited success!) but has anyone got any ideas?

thankyouSmile

If it is happening when he is tired it could be because he is struggling to see or stay in focus as he tires. Has he seen an eye specialist? Maybe rule that out anyway. Hope you get to film it!

Thankyou Magso.

he saw the opthamologist 2 weeks ago (he has ptosis in one eye, an astigmatism and is long sighted) but of course he has only started doing this since then (perfect timimg!)

I think it is definitely worse when he is tired but he does it at other times too.

So far most have my films have been him staring into space, not blinking at all, hiding his face or dd1 gurning in front of him!

That's always the way isn't it! Hope you get to the bottom of it.

Thankyou

It doesn't look like that video, zzzzz, but looking at some of the other videos on youtube there are some that are similar.

I managed to get a bit of film of it, and have emailed it to his paed.

His portage lady suggested it could be eye strain made worse by the doubling of his dose of hyoscine, which could be making his eyes dry. This would make sense, so I will try some lacrilube in his eyes and see if it helps.

Excellent that you've videoed it and emailed it to paed.

I have no medical training but I'm afraid my first thought was seizures too. Bluechick had them and some of what you describe sounds familiar.

You've done the right thing, don't let up until you have an EEG.

I know you are right, I am clutching at straws a bit, and thought would be worth a try whilst trying to get in touch with paed.

The eeg he had last year showed nothing, but it was an hour whilst asleep, and he had been having no seizure like activity in the run up.

But from watching a film of ds during one of his night time choking/screaming episodes, his paed did think seizures were likely.

I have tried to work out how to post a video online so i can link to it and you can see what you think, but it won't load.

My ds did something similar when he had dry eyes. I was told to make sure he was drinking alot and it did help a bit.
