My little girls almost 7 as spina bifida hydrocephlalus we have many problems with are local LEA and with support she gets we used to spend many months training up TA to do my daughters care then nurse would sign them off and and many occasions I've had to go in to school to do my daughters catherter as there is nobody to help as there of sick or handed in notice ... Last week my daughter couldn't go in school because nobody was there to care for her again is it right parents should go in to see to needs ? Also she's on her 9th helper in 3 years and to me that's to many people that's been involved

Bumping for the experts for you

But - it sounds utterly unreasonable and inadequate. They must make sure she is able to access her education. I wonder what her absence was marked as? I would be inclined to see it as an illegal exclusion myself. I would be furious. ( I am a school governor and an HCP in previous life)

I would suggest making an appointment with the SENCO/inclusion manager to sort out who exactly is trained to do your daughters specific care, and what they have in place as a back up if that named person is absent for some reason. Is there an agreed management plan/care plan in place?

The school nurse should be able to train up members of staff for specific tasks if needed.

Staff turnover is not something you can do much about unfortunately, but it suggests that the school isn't supporting their staff either if they are moving on frequently Sad

Are local LEA employ there own staff and the community nurse trains them because of long term sickness and staff evaluation many staff have left which means we need to train more people but if I let more people train on Ashley it will be her 10th and 11th person and I feel as if I'm letting to many people become involved ESP as Ashley as selective mutism I've had meeting in the passed regarding staff coming and going but nothing's been done she's only been in school one week since September over staff evaluation we have spent alot of time back and for doing Ashley's catheters but I don't want Ashley feeling different having her parents there ive started up a petition on line to try DVD help I know health are backing me up and school as even tryed getting advise off welfare officer but they have said its out of there hands because I've not refused her in school , I'm feeling awful at the moment not sleeping or anything all I want is Ashley to be able to go to school every day and know she as long term staff

What on earth is happening in this school that they have such a high staff turnover? If they can't get welfare staff to stay, perhaps they should be looking at employing a trained nurse?

If dd has only been in school for one week this term, the situation is totally unlawful, and you should get legal advice - phone the Civil Legal Advice line on 0845 345 4345.
