Hi I am asking this question for a friend, her Dd had an ADOS a few months ago and according to the clinical psychologist who administered the test she fell within the range for a diagnosis of Asd.

However she wasnt given a dx at the time and has continued to be observed and assessed by the team at the CDC. My friend is pretty convinced she has Asd, she is certainly quirky and has lots of traits. She also has a massive language delay and comunicates mainly using PECs which she is brilliant with at home but not in other settings.

The CDC are now saying they want to repeat the ADOS but someone has told my friend that they are not supposed to repeat it in such a short space of time. It is less than 6 months.

What do you all know about the ins and outs of ADOS and what advice would you give about allowing the test to be repeated?

I'd advise your friend that the ADOS test is notoriously dodgy when it comes to testing girls as it is centred around the typical male traits, and doesn't take into account how girls can learn to mask theirs from a very early age.

I can't link right now as on phone, but the NAS pages on women/girls are very good.

It might help her if she took a look and noted any similarities and presented those to the CDC?

Thanks ripping I will tell her.

Try and do it privately and foward those details to the CDC? My dd scored very low on her first ADOS.

Are the CDC allowing her to access help without a dx?

Yes sammy she is recieving some funding for one to one support at Preschool.

They just keep want to sit on the fence, despite much evidence in the form of photos, diaries and written observations from Preschool.

It is really difficult. My friend and I have discussed that she might need to seek a second opinion!
