Private OT appointment - what to expect.

DD has been on the OT waiting list for 6 months, potentially another 6 to go before she will be seen. She has Sensory Processing Disorder as well as ASD and her SPD has intensified recently. We have made an appointment with a private OT on Wednesday, recommended to us, but not sure what to expect, what we should be looking to discuss etc.

Any pointers?

Many thanks.

Has the OT already given you a sensory questionnaire to fill in? If not you might get that at the appointment.

When DS had his initial assessment the OT spent about 10 mins chatting to us (me and DH) first to ask how we had come to this point (DS had been assessed for ASD but dx'd with SPD and anxiety). Then she met DS and informally chatted to / observed him for about 20 mins. Then she did about an hour of more formal assessing - lots of "can you copy this movement" / "can you see which 2 pictures are the same" / "close your eyes... How many times did I touch you?" She then gave us some very brief feedback at the end and set up an appointment to go and observe him in school. After she'd observed him in school she met with us to give verbal feedback, followed up by a written report. And after that she met with us and school to set up a sensory integration therapy plan.

Thanks Jacksterbear. We haven't received a questionnaire yet so may perhaps receive that tomorrow.

It's just good to have an idea of what to expect. We are still figuring out the gist of everyone's roles!
