Private diagnostic appointments for PDA

I'm looking for advice on who can actually diagnose PDA

If we can afford it then Dh and I would like go down this route as well as staying in the nhs system.

Am I right in thinking if you do the D. I. S. C. O. That it shows up?

All information and advice is much appreciated.

By the way, we're based in the north west.

Here you go... The Elizabeth Newson centre in Nottingham.

its expensive at the Elizabeth newson centre - I asked a few years ago and they quoted 2 k then - that's when we had no dx at all. he now is dx with asd and lots of co morbids so didn't have to go down the private route in the end but it took a long time. now aged 10 he is actually at the school attached to the Elizabeth newson centre so im in the centre quite a lot! what I would say is the staff there are amazing so im guessing that although expensive it would be worth it.

Jacksterbear · 02/10/2013 08:24

It's £3k now for assessment at the EN Centre.

bjkmummy · 02/10/2013 09:42

Ouch to 3k - think I was 2k when I asked which must have been 5 years ago now. I suspect my son has PDA - no one has come out and mentioned it as such but his home to school diary is constantly talking about his avoidance of demands! The school attachéd to it is simply amazing although it would take a tribunal to get him in but the staff so know their stuff.

sweetteamum · 02/10/2013 10:57

Thanks for the replies. Looks like we'll be staying on the nhs for a long while yet. As much as they know what to look for etc it's just way too much.

I do know that quite a few people have been successful in getting the NHS trust to fund referrals to Elizabeth newson centre so that maybe something you could pursue.

bjkmummy · 02/10/2013 11:41

Wow - can I just say I just clicked on the link above and the picture is my son!

I think you could ask your GP to refer you to ENC.

bjkmummy · 03/10/2013 07:05

from what ive seen most do go through their GP and ask for a referral to the ENC - as it is quite pricey expect a bit of fight - I have also seen people go to GOSH as well. I suspect my son has PDA as well especially with the stuff they write in his book like avoiding demands - im hoping that as he is at the school it will help but don't know if I will still need to be referred in as well so will wait and see. I know my friends son who was also at the school was assessed as part of his school placement

sweetteamum · 04/10/2013 18:19

I'm just not sure we would get a referral from the gp. I also very much doubt we would get the funding for the assessment.

Does anybody know any reputable paediatricians and the like who do diagnose PDA. That may be an alternative.

I know a independent paed and a clinical psych who have a special interest in PDA, but they're both down south so probably no good for you.

sweetteamum · 04/10/2013 22:04

I'm prepared to travel. Please could you pm me with the details. I'd really appreciate it :)

Walter4 · 04/10/2013 22:17

Hi sweet, i have heard Dr Hilary Dyer diagnoses PDA , not sure where she is though. You could ask ENC for help with local diagnosis.
Good luck.

blueShark · 04/10/2013 22:43

Senmerry can you please pm me the details as well

Handywoman · 04/10/2013 22:51

blueeyedmonster · 05/10/2013 10:18

I'm down south and asm going to be travelling at least 4 hours north to see someone private!

devientenigma · 05/10/2013 21:04

They are busy doing a who diagnoses PDA map on the Facebook group, might be worth a look at.
We had an NHS referral to ENC diagnostic route.

sweetteamum · 05/10/2013 21:28

I will have a look over there.

How was your referral accepted by your gp?

OP posts:
devientenigma · 06/10/2013 08:15

The GP done the referral.

sweetteamum · 06/10/2013 08:54
