Has school broken data protection by doing this ?

Will try and keep brief
Son I suspect has aspergers , school at first said he had issues with social skills but improved , he was assessed before starting school nursery at 3 and scored points but not enough for diagnosis, he is back on waiting list but I was told 10 months wait. However we have had a lot of issues with him trying to escape out of windows so speech therapist referred me to early health team as his behaviour out of control.

Early health team have been told his assessment has been pushed forward to October and to ask school if they know the date, school senco didn't know anything about it and said they would tell me if they knew anything, she said this as I have wrote a letter of complaint before about not being informed.

Anyway early health team spoke to senco and seen co said she had phoned up the team who are doing the assessments and it is going ahead in oct. She also informed early health he had been seen by ed psyc last year but no issues raised. I wasn't aware he had been seen by ed psych last year as school say nothing wrong with my son and I'm not that happy that she has phoned the autism team without asking me to find out when he is being assessed.

She also hasn't informed me that the assessment is going ahead earlier despite her saying she would keep me informed and I only know through early health team
Am I right to be annoyed she is phoning agencies without my consent and then not even updating me.

Confused If I've read it right, you asked the SENCo if she knew the date of the assessment, because another team told you it had been pushed forward and was imminent, then the SENCo made a phone call to check, and you are unhappy about her following up your query ???

Yes, you're right to be annoyed that you're not being kept informed. The SEN COP places a duty on school etc to work 'in partnership with parents'.

You may want to look at your child's school file to see exactly what's been going on and who he has been assessed by. It's your right to see his school file.

School should have informed you before they called in the Ed Pysch, so that's not good behaviour either.

The reason I complained before was because speech therapy had set targets and the school didn't do them and said he doesn't need the targets they originally kept fobbing me off saying they hadn't had time to do them and then once I complained they said he doesn't need them.

No doubt I'm already known as the mum who complains but I feel I have good reason to, I just wanted opinions as to her phoning an outside agency without my consent is the done thing?

She probably shouldn't have done that, but at the end of the day she is working towards a common goal with you about trying to get your child an assessment. I would pick your battles to be honest and just let this go.
