I'm so proud, DS stood today for 28 seconds...

...in bare feet! I just need to tell someone other than DH, was going to put in on FB but when your DS is 8.5 years old it seems a bit wrong somehow!

I don't come on here so much now but DS has spastic diplegia CP and we are 18 months post SDR. I've been getting a bit disheartened with all the masses of physio sometimes showing no improvement and then he does something like this! He really wants to do judo so is motivated by standing in bare feet so he can (he can stand in splints, just not unsupported.)

I've been grinning all evening and need to tell others who know that the little steps are so important. Thank you!

Well done to ds. You must be so proud of him.

My ds was around the same age when he realised he didn't need to hold on to things in order to walk. It's a great feeling.

That brought a year to my eye. 28 seconds is massive

Well done. We understand on here Smile

We put stuff like that on fb, but our pages are only family and close friends so they understand too!

that's fantastic news, well done to your ds Smile

HairyMaclary · 28/09/2013 18:55

Thanks everyone! He repeated it today and wants to aim for 5 mins but said 'it might take me a week or so to get there!' if that's all it takes I will be over the moon!

Absolutely brilliant - so pleased for your DS :-)

Kaffiene · 02/10/2013 20:20

Wow!! Well done. Dd is 12 months post SDR and still lacks confidence to stand Independantly. Well done all of you, I know how hard the rehab is on the whole family.

HairyMaclary · 03/10/2013 20:22

Kaffiene - it's a Lycra suit that's bought it all together. I'm not telling DS that though! He's had shorts for a while but he started wearing a short arm/ short leg suit at the beginning of Sept and it's made a huge difference. His problem has been slowing down enough the make use of his flat(ter) feet!

Kaffiene · 03/10/2013 23:32

Ahhhhhhhh don't say that DD doesn't get on with Lycra :(

She looks beautiful in it but just doesn't tolerate it.

HairyMaclary · 04/10/2013 09:25

We've spent a lot of time and energy getting Ds to the point of tolerating it. His Physio says it is her greatest achievement!! That's one of the reasons we started with shorts. However he's now 8 and with this new suit he can feel the benefit and wants to wear it.
