I have posted a few times and can't see this message going up. Do u have to log in somewhere. Can u give me arguments against the above. The LEA are citing that provision is all in therefore they don't need to quantifiy at a Resource or even an Special School.

That's tricky. The SEN CoP doors state that provision should (must? can't remember and there is a legal distinction) be specified and quantified. However, specialist provision doesn't really lend itself to that.

For example, dd1 is given SALT all day every day - it's a total communication environment - with fortnightly focused intervention within a group.

There are particular phrases that those writing the reports tend to use, such as SaL embedded in the curriculum/daily teaching, small groups, holistic, low-stimulus environment etc. which are then quoted in the statement. IF you have similar phrases, the LA are naming ss and you agree with the suitability of the school I would not worry too much about quantification (unless you are appealing and the LA is naming m/s where you need both).

Absolutely so, KeepOnKeepingOn1.

I remember reading DD1's statement for the first time and there was a sentence which said 'DD1 should be supported by staff who are skilled in teaching children with complex needs and blah blah blah....' and thinking 'How on earth are they going to guarantee that?'

Then the penny dropped that it was special school that they were aiming at.

Have you already chosen a placement with special school / resource, I would only be worried if the placement was attached to M/S or dual. A special school statement is written so MS would be unable to be named unless a re write and if the statement was written quantified the SS could argue that they are unable to comply.

also, there are different resource models out there.

my DD attends a resource unit where children spend only limited time in the unit but spend most of the time in the MS part of the school (with LSA support). In such a case I would want to get the statement properly quantified and specified.
