What is a "visual motor program - 'Eye Spy' "?

and why would my 7 year old DS be being invited to participate in one twice a week for six weeks?

Hope you don't mind, but I thought someone in this part of MN might know something about the things that school is talking about and be able to keep me straight....

The letter says it is designed to boost 'visual memory, spatial awareness and fine motor skills' none of which I was aware he actually had a problem with (gross motor skills are a different matter, but the OT we used a couple of years ago said he was very unusual in that while he does have problems with the gross motor skills, his fine movements are fine.)

We went through a bit of a saga with the school three years ago when an over-enthusiastic teacher was convinced that his strabismus would mean he would never be able to learn to read (the ophthalmologist laughed) and he was taken out of class for lessons with the learning support assistant to develop fine motor skills he already had, for no obvious reason - so while I am pleased that they are actually inviting me to consent this time, I'm afraid we're off on a similar journey.

What would 'visual memory' and 'spatial awareness' issues look like? how would I know if he has them? and are they measurable? would really like to be able to ask what they think the outcome of the program would be and how they will know if it has had any effect, don't really need him to be missing normal lessons for no demonstrable benefit - or am I being unreasonable?

Thanks!
