Applied back in may for SA so that DD1 will have a statement in place for secondary school in Sept 2014. We are now 17 weeks into the process, ive not yet heard anything :( is this right? whats their deadline for issuing proposed statement or dare i say it note in lieu?

Also when will the statement start? would be straight away or when she starts secondary?

Thanks :)

the statementing process usually takes at least 26 weeks (often longer).

however, the LA has to decide within 6 weeks of your application if they are going ahead to assess your DC or not and they must inform you about it.

have you not heard anything?

AttilaTheMeerkat · 19/09/2013 10:54

I would certainly chase the LEA up if you have not heard anything at all.

BTW never, ever accept a Note in lieu because this is not worth the paper it is written on.

Sorry i wasnt totally clear, yes they are assessing her, so we've done the 6 weeks waiting for the yes or no letter, and we are 11 weeks into the actual assessment process, the wait is making me bloody ill.

Attila no way on earth ill accept a note in lieu, she needs an IR place, she wont manage with just a normal MS place, even with a statement.

Should i call the LEA? and chase thing up.

I think by 18 weeks they have to decide if the are going to issue a statement or a NIL. Not sure if the summer holiday counts towards these 18 weeks Hmm so you LA might actually still be within the time frame.

maybe give you case officer a ring and see where things are up to?

McFarts · 19/09/2013 11:31

I'll give them a call, thankfully the summer holiday have been included in the 18 weeks, im so nervous about it all i feel sick!

Well i called them, WE'VE GOT THE STATEMENT! Grin

The statement will (if all goes to plan) start at the latter end of November with her current primary school named, but then it will go to the specialist panel in December ready for secondary, so the wording will need to reflect that she need an ASD specific IR place for secondary..... but for now ill be relieved and celebrate.

So for those of you out there who have been told "your child is to bright for a statement" here is the proof that its a load of CRAP!! My DD is academically gifted.....tho very much on the spectrum.

That's good to hear Mcfarts Grin we are just waiting for a yes or no to assess or Ds.

our tut

chocnomore · 19/09/2013 12:59

brilliant Grin

just make sure that esp parts 2 and 3 are spot on once you receive the statement Wink

AttilaTheMeerkat · 19/09/2013 14:49

Great news indeed McFarts.

I would second what Chocnomore has written though re Parts 2 and 3. These need to be right i.e support is both quantified and specified as per case law. Otherwise you will need to reject it.
