and sent Amelia into nursery with no pull ups on!!!

Fed up of her being as good as dry when she is at home and still wetting while she is at nursery.
She gets minimal support and dispite being completely dry for me half term week she had 3 accidents the next week and last week didn't have a dry day!!!
This week I thought again about giving her mixed messages by wearing pull ups and decided to give it a go.
Out of 4 mornings at nursery this week she has been dry for 3 of them. Quite pleased with this I suppose.

I am a bit confused as what I should be doing. I am offering her the toilet about every 1/2 hours and this seems to work but she doesn't very often requext the toilet herself yet. I am concerned that by doing what I am doing, I am avoiding puddles on the floor and soggy knickers, but I am not allowing her to get the feeling of a full bladder and knowing when she "needs to go!"

Any advice please? For those of you who don't know, Amelia is 4.5 and has DS.

no advice I'm afraid, just wanted to say hi and good for you for biting the bullet - you'll never know until you try.

I think she's done really well at nursery. It's not long to the summer holidays so you could start then leaving it longer to see if she needs the toilet.
When she is wet in pants does it both her,or is she happy to keep them on iyswim.

Thanks, it just seemed that if I was waiting for the nursery staff she would still be in pull ups at school for years when she might not need to be.

I am still not getting the free nappies either, but that's a different story.

I have all the paperwork to do over the next few weeks for her statementing so I have been sending her in with her glasses on and no nappy to see how she gets on!!! She is supposed to wear her glasses all the time but has only had them a week today, so it's just a case of getting her used to them slowly I suppose. She has been wearing then to school but takes them off as soon as we get in. I am happier I suppose, that she does this ATM as the support is just not there for her. When she goes out to work with her LSA she wears them then, but this is still only for 20 minutes 3 times a week!!

Going back to the toilet training, I have a little pair of knickers for her called Kylie pants or something like that. Like little knickers but with a padded gussety thing - does anyone know about these and where I can get more.

Have papers to complete for the continence service, got to investigate her poo and keep charts!!LOL, might delegate that to hubby!!
It seems that we won't get pull ups/nappies for her now, shame they never got their act together 6 months ago really! But what sort of help is available for protecting bedding...etc please?

BTW heavenis, it's not consistant whether or not she is bothered by the wetness. She certainly is fussed when she is walking home from nursery, but at 5am in the morning she will happily strip off a dirty or wet nappy![

Fio - I requested help about the nappies ages ago. Was told Medway don't supply them at 3 because there are too many lazt parents who can't be bother to toilet train their children. So when she was approaching 4 I asked again. She was 4 in October and the paperwork is still going backwards and forwards. I have now got Parental input forms to complete for the Continence Advisory Service. This has all been done through our HV who is also Amelia's Key Worker.
TBH, I feel that putting her back in nappies now will take away all the independence we have built up, and they do not give free pull ups. By the time the papers are sorted it may only be night time I am dealing with, apart from the "accidents!"
Then again maybe not, I have been toilet training with her for 2 years now, but she has really improved over the last few months.

LOL Fio, no hunny. Just been really busy. It was the school fair yesterday, followed by hubbys birthday bash.

This week I only have 1 appointment so I really need to get all this paperwork sorted for Amelia's statement request.

Examining poo and keeping a record of her toileting seems it will have to take second place!

Just wanted to wish to continued luck - no consolation, but we don't get free nappies until the kids are 4. What about having no pull ups or pants on - just flying free? I am embarking on potty training dd and my only frustration is her playgroup who won't leave the door from the playgroup main room to the loo(and potty) open. DD is non verbal so can't communicate that she wants the potty to the workers, nor can she unlock a huge door, so they have had accidents and therefore insist she is in pullups. At home she is clean, dry and reliable, as long as there is a potty or looo in sight she can take herself too. I am confident dd will get it eventually and so will your dd. Every achievement is special, but when a SN child achieves such a milestone, it makes it all the sweeter. Good luck!
