Omg they didn't waste any time! I have a scary letter now! Do I want to submit evidence? I sent off lots with the request. Pead report, one and only failed iep, ot report, school report, salt assesment quoted from them all. Does that all need to go in again? What else do I need??

Am I doing the right thing here - the school are going to hate me. Not that I care I just want my boy to learn.

They mention the 'sen panel' I think I saw a post before saying its a panel of one. The named officer? Do I need to get names of people on this panel?

You could just refer them to the paperwork you have already sent them however I would send the whole lot again - LAs like to keep things very pigeon-holed.
Just submit everything and anything that shows evidence of need. Tell them the names and contact details of anyone involved with your child that you think the LA needs to consult - i.e. CAMHS, any consultants etc. Don't assume the LA knows which medics are involved with your child - they don't. The LA will take advice from anyone you name.

IGNORE THE PANEL - sorry for shouting. We had thread on panels recently. they are basically a load of bollox that the LA pretend do the decision making - they don't. the legal decision-maker is the Case Officer or Named Officer - the person in the LA Education service who signs the letters they send to you. The Case Officer makes the decisions and tells the panel what they intend to do. Panel rubber stamps it and LA pretends the Panel has given every decision careful consideration - more bollox.

See - it's late and all this talk of panels has made me cross.

Is this just the standard letter saying they have received your request and you have until x to submit more evidence and a decision will be made on x date?

In our case in 2010, a draft statement had been prepared BEFORE it went to 'panel', so the 'panel' seemed to consist of a few LA officers and LA EP sending emails to each other, having a change of heart and deciding not to issue it.

2boysnamedR · 18/09/2013 09:35

Yes it's just the standard panel claw. If he get refused sa can I then request all the la's info on their fusion making process while I appeal? It is data they hd about me / my son after all?

I mean standard letter. Dyslexia I write words further along in my though process I must proof read before posting Blush

I understood what you meant Smile I often type too fast, don't read and miss a word out!

You can request a copy of LA files, school files and PCT files too at any time. I did all at the same time and found some little gems which would have helped as evidence for tribunal, although they backed down before Tribunal and agreed to assess and issue a statement.

This was more recently, after previously being refused a statement in 2010. This is where I found the emails from 2010.

claw2 · 18/09/2013 09:58

I didn't send all the paperwork again when they wrote acknowledging receipt of my application and giving deadlines or send any more evidence.

I waited for them to refuse to assess and saved further evidence for appeal.

okthatsweird · 18/09/2013 10:32

I just put a note on the paperwork asking them to use all information which had already been included/supplied with the letter dated // (I got a bit carried away with the request letter and it ended up quite lengthy Blush). Listing what was included e.g CAMHS Dx letter //, Pead letter //-- .

2boysnamedR · 18/09/2013 11:00

God I might send it all again. Highlight things this time and refer to that. Going to see the senco and ct over the next seven days

Senco if off training for the next two weeks. I guess it's irrelevant to me? The school wil have to get someone to do it? He's been on sa+ since April last year so they must have some evidence

Hi 2boys, I'm in the exact same position as you (was asked for more info yest for the 'panel') and was about to ask the same question. I didn't send reports etc with the letter tho so I'm gng to send them all in now. Are u sending some kind of statement from yourself also?

2boysnamedR · 18/09/2013 13:25

Yes I think I will send in a statement from me - good idea! I have his dla application letter printed out

OP posts:
StarlightMcKenzie · 18/09/2013 13:26

I would send all again. Or, at the very least, list the documents you have sent so far with their dates and titles and say that these needed to be included.

The reason you have to submit again is because they will form a part of the appendix. Documents sent prior will not, unless you specifically indicate to them of course.

That's why I'd do them all again. So no excuses. No misunderstandings. There are quite enough of them already.

osospecial · 18/09/2013 13:32

Don't think I kept a copy of dd dla application form. I've got quite a few other reports from various professionals though. Do you know how long they have before they have to make a decision? Is it from when you send this info in or from the date they had the SA letter in first place? I was told I could speak to a family support worker with any queries but not sure how much to trust her as she works for the council as well.

2boysnamedR · 18/09/2013 20:41

I think it's six weeks from receiving the letter? Oso do you have your schools backing? Can't remember if I asked you that? The "panel" is on the 16th next month

OP posts:
osospecial · 18/09/2013 21:06

Dd is actually in an observation and assessment unit at the moment so I was a bit confused about how applying for SA worked in this situation as I'm not saying that school is not meeting her needs as such, and her 'needs' are supposed to be being 'assessed' there but its a short term placement (2 terms) and I want things in place for her so she can move on to a suitable, more permanent place. I've been waiting to hear more about starting a IDP since last Apr when she started and it still hasn't happened so fed up of waiting for them. Also, I've heard some Dc have actually had to wait 2 yrs to be moved on to suitable place because of lack of spaces etc. I've found a ASD unit I think dd will do really well in so I'm going to be pushing for that.
Been busy tonight photocopying all dd's reports for them! Good luck for the 16th! Is your DS in mainstream?

claw2 · 19/09/2013 21:40

Yes that true with my original bundle I listed all documents sent, I then just sent another copy of this, asking them to include these. I was fully expecting SA to be refused, so didn't bother too much.

2boysnamedR · 19/09/2013 23:21

Yes ds is mainstream and I think it's the right place for him to be ( we shall see!) as far as I know he has dyspraxia and SPd because if that. More might come out later but right now he is struggling in school but I'm not sure why. He has speech delays and word finding problems, memory issues and has to be given clear tasks one at a time. He has friends and that's the most important part of his happiness. Not sure I could move him :0(

OP posts:
2boysnamedR · 19/09/2013 23:22

Not sure if his disability is holding him back, or if there more going on or he's just going to catch up ( very unlikely!) all these questions - no answers I'm afraid
