Experiences of chest physio?

Posted in health also but wondering if those in the know are over here?

DD is only 2 but we have been doing chest physio for a year or so now. She has recently been introduced to bubble PEP and now has an Acapella device. Does anyone else use these? What age did your DC "get it"?

Also, am thinking a long way ahead, but this time next year we'll be applying for her school place, and she will start preschool in the course of this academic year (if she's well enough). How do you manage chest physio in school/childcare? Is is part of their remit, do we need to pay for extra help (we get DLA)?

Hi Suffolklatch, firstly no you don't have to pay, assuming she doesn't have any other special educational needs then her additional medical needs will be managed by a care plan that the school will follow. Ideally a specialist nurse should compile it with the school nurse, SENCO & you and any training of school staff should be organised by the specialist nurses.
Not sure if you really are in Suffolk, we are & they have been great with my ds2.

Thanks mymate, not in Suffolk unfortunately, just have Suffolk latches everywhere and needed a nc for this. Glad your dd has received good care.

Dd2 has no sen that we know of, and at the moment can have nearly all meds and physio at home, but if she deteriorates at all will def need nebs and physio during the day. So school/preschool may need extra time/staffto sit and do her bits with her. I don't want her to have to stay home whenever things get worse as tgat's likely to be often, though would obviously keep her off if she was struggling. How do they cope with needing extra time like this?

Suffolklatch, ds2's TA does his physio & she or the office staff give medication.
He has 1to1 as he has complex needs but his physio came in & trained several of the staff.
TBH once trained it really takes very little time out of their day.

Ah, ok, thanks. I find it all quite time consuming and the extent quite daunting so find it hard to imagine they would be ok with it but I'm sure they have much more experience of differing needs. Really glad to hear it is doable.

(Sorry, I should have said ds2 not dd)

Sorry, I meant to ask about nebs as well. Dd has hypertonic saline pre physio and obviously this is more time consuming. Have any of you had experience of regular nebs in childcare/school?
