It might help understand stimming a bit more

A definite one to read for me. Thanks op.

It's good isn't it, especially explaining the difference between stims and tics, even though it was explained to me a few times by the OT I still came away wondering, it's nice to hear from someone who is actually going through this.

Thanks OP, very informative

Thanks OP I just wish the staff working with DS would get it too and the neglectful Autism Advisory service.

They keep on saying there is nothing wrong with him. So I am going for APD diagnosis on top of SPD.

Thanks OP-a really interesting read & one I will be sharing :)

Thanks for this..as someone trying to make sense of her child's difficulties this has answered yet another unanswered question!

Ellenora5 · 18/09/2013 16:26

Glad you all found it helpful, kafkesque I hope you get the help you and your ds need.

I'll bump the thread every now and again incase others might find it useful.

My DD bounces off furniture and runs up and down the room. Have always assumed it was bad behaviour and not stimming.

She doesn't do it in response to anything and stops doing it immediately if there's something else offered to do.
Could be stimming? Accompanied by hysterical laughter it drives me up the wall!

No polter. She has a formal ASD assessment booked for next week. We have been told it could take up to 4 hrs to complete.

I wonder if an OT forms part of the panel carrying out the assessing....?
