I may be being a little contemporary, or dim, but surely being provided with an electronic copy for you to amend would be more efficient???

Nothing is cross referenced from part 2 to part 3 so its a massive job to make sure all needs are provided with a solution in the classroom.....

Do they do this to make it more difficult to make it clear what you think is really needed?

Also, did you share the draft with school so they could specify what interventions would be provided for each provision (I dont know what interventions they will use specifically - new school), as well as taking quotes from proffs reports?

So far I have gone to town with a highlighter pen and scribbled '1:1 in every lesson' needed at the end of every provision as this is clearly what will be needed.

What if you dont have DX/proffs advice yet (slow NHS) but know it will be coming once you get an appointment? how is that included afterthe event?

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some LEAs do like to issue wishy washy statements.

What does Parts 2 and 3 actually state?.

A statement needs to be both specified and quantified in terms of provision as per case law, it if it not (as seemingly is the case here) it needs to be rejected.

I would also take independent advice from someone like IPSEA www.ipsea.org.uk or SOSSEN re the contents of Parts 2 and 3.

(BTW if SALT is needed it should be in both Parts 2 and 3 of the statement document).

You may ultimately be looking at a SEND Tribunal if the LEA do not agree.

It has lots of fluff about needs, and some bullet points and numbered items that state 'should have something like this/that achieves x' but is not specific about how it is to be achieved, who will do it or for how long....

They do refer to development of speech and language skills with no mention of SALT, setting up environment to be supportive of sensory needs with no reference to OT etc.

E-mail to IPSEA in pipeline

Got electronic copy, IPSEA are helping by looking at Part 3 to advice what shuold be specified and quantified from what they have stated as needs and what is in the proff submissions.

Thanks!

Ok so, spoke to SEN officer. Apparently the statement of 17 hours is as quantified as its going to get. Where it says provide support to develop xxxx that is adequate and there is no expectation to say 'by xxx intervention every week/month' or what ever.......unless the proff specified it in their submission

So, is that really how it is?
